This time you continue to catch Carmen Sandiego and her american gang in the U.S.A. Breaking from jail somewhere in Europe, she comes to yankees to steal their treasures. You as ACME detective have to travel from town to town on the tail of suspect, using clues and collecting evidences, which allow you to put suspect to jail finally. The words of witnesses are clues for you only if you have basical geographical and historical knowledge.
Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego is a high quality game that works in all major modern web browsers. This online game is part of the Arcade, Puzzle, Emulator, and SEGA gaming categories. Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego has 5 likes from 5 user ratings.
This version is enhanced with VGA graphics, Network support, mouse and joystick support, and detailed descriptions of suspects. Also you have to answer correctly the doc check question to acquire a new rank.
Brøderbund brought us several high quality games (such as Lode Runner, Karateka, Prince of Persia, Stunts), but I guess their most successful series is without a doubt Where in ___ is Carmen Sandiego?
After you've chased Carmen down in Europe and locked her up, she escaped and is now on the loose in the USA.
This game already features VGA graphics, with animated V.I.L.E. henchmen, but the sounds are still quite dull. You can use the mouse to control the game, or stick to the keyboard. Actually this is not the original game, but the enhanced version. You see the Carmen Sandiego games were so popular, that enhanced and then deluxe versions were released later on (and they were all remakes of the original games Where in the World, in Europe, in the USA...).
This time you will travel through all 50 states of the USA, trying to capture the gang of Carmen Sandiego and finally her as well. Again you need to find clues to the next location of a culprit who stole a valuable piece from a city and you need to find the identity of this culprit to get a warrant for the arrest.
I must admit I know far less about the USA as I do about Europe, so I did use Google for some references and I have to admit there are a few things I learned. Still I found some inaccuracies as well. I mean, do you really expect me to believe that in a populated city you get to see a mouse standing in mush without any building in site? Also it's somewhat irritating to read that the suspect went to Aspen for skiing, but you're taken to downtown Denver instead (with ski slopes there instead of a city). I can understand that it would be too much to cover every city and that the travels are therefore limited to state capitals, but why did they have to write clues that point to other places? I mean all you need to do is locate the state the clue points to and go to its capital, so why not point at the capital directly (or actually add some more cities to each state)?
Anyway, it's a solid edutainment game and the game most similar to Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego (gameplay and graphic wise). As usual I really loved the animated villains and their sad faces while they were dragged off to jail. Part of the Carmen Sandiego Series.
Undoubtedly the most successful edutainment franchises, the Where in [xxx] is Carmen Sandiego? is Broderbund's flagship series that has spawned numerous sequels, TV shows, and even board games. Premiered in 1985 with Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?, subsequent releases have sold millions of copies collectively worldwide. But until multimedia CD-ROM versions of the game appeared in 1995, the individual Carmen Sandiego titles were not all blockbusters.
The premise behind every Carmen Sandiego game is identical: starting out as a rookie detective, your job is to track down a gang of thieves who are stealing the world's (or the galaxy's/USA's/Europe's/history's as the case may be) most precious treasures. After each assignment briefing, you are given a deadline to capture the thief. Then it's off to the travel screen, where you pick the next destination to track the thief. At each location, you must interpret various clues from a number of sources (informants, etc.) to figure out the thief's next stop, as well as his/her identity. Your mission is a success when you track the thief to the right final hideout (plus time period, if you are playing Where in Time version) with the arrest warrant issued for the correct suspect before the deadline. Missions are progressively more difficult as you solve cases and win promotions.
Every Carmen Sandiego game contains hundreds of clues, attractive graphics and cartoons, and fun gameplay that will captivate kids and adults alike.
Between the original 1985/86 CGA versions and after 1995 (where CD-ROM era began), Carmen Sandiego games can be categorized into 2 groups, each based on the underlying engine: the first group comprises 'VGA enhanced versions' releases between 1989 and 1992. In this group, in the order of release, belong Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?, Where in Europe is Carmen Sandiego?, Where in America's Past is Carmen Sandiego?, Where in The World is Carmen Sandiego? (Enhanced), and Where in The USA is Carmen Sandiego? (Enhanced). The second group are games released between 1992 and 1994 that are based on the improved game engine that offers high-res VGA graphics, thousands of clues (as opposed to hundreds), and a more polished interface. These include Where in The World is Carmen Sandiego? Deluxe Edition, Where in Space is Carmen Sandiego?, and Where in The USA is Carmen Sandiego? Deluxe Edition. Of all these games, Where in Europe is Carmen Sandiego? and Where in The USA is Carmen Sandiego? Deluxe Edition are the hardest to find.
All 8 aforementioned releases are now available for download from this site, as a tribute to one of the best edutainment series ever made. Whether you have a kid in your house or not, Carmen Sandiego games will glue you to the screen for hours on end if you have even a slight interest in geography, history, or trivia in general.

Carmen Sandiego, international fugitive and head of V.I.L.E., has hatched a brand new scheme. Using her latest invention, the Babble-On Laser, Carmen seeks to destroy communication by rendering languages into incoherent gibberish. The ACME Detective Agency, once again attempts to stop Carmen Sandiego by finding the location of the Tower of Babbel. Already twelve Agents have been lost and only Agent 13 remains to put together clues using Acme's latest interface, the CyberCom 2000.
As Agent 13, your main goal is to rescue the previous 12 agents and stop Carmen Sandiego. You do this by gathering individual keys to rescue each of the agents. These keys in turn are guarded by several passwords, all of which must be decoded. These passwords are decoded by discovering 'clues' in Carmen's hideouts which then launch anyone of 5 mini-game..
These mini-game sequences are the following: Code Breaker: Using a series of letter tiles, the player must spell specific words already chosen (Searcher Mode) or create new words that are present inside Word Detective's dictionary (Builder Mode). Fusion Chamber: The player must find the meaning of a core word, the meaning of a prefix or suffix, and the meaning of the combined word. Micropix: The player is given a page of text with several nouns, verbs and adjectives missing. The most logical choices must be placed in these missing areas. Power Pack: Words must be placed in alphabetical order to form a tower on the right side of the screen Spellanyzer: The player is given an audio recording of a word, as well as it's usage in a phrase and must either unscramble or spell the indicated word.
Progress for individual or total players is kept and may be printed out or compared as an aid to teachers.
In Carmen Sandiego Word Detective, by Broderbund, you are on the trail of that criminal mastermind Carmen Sandiego once more. Not only does this game allow you to track her and her minions, but it also reveals some of her background. Apparently, Carmen was herself an Agent of ACME and partner to Chase Deveraux before deciding her talents were better used for crime.
Now, she has decided to steal language itself by use of her Babble-On machine, which scrambles the speech and thought centers of the brain so all that comes out is babble.
Passwords to the key stashers that will free the other agents that Carmen has captured are hidden in the hideouts of her henchmen. The password can be encrypted in one of five ways.
In the codebreaker, you need to find hidden words in stacks of tiles. In the searcher encryption, you need to find words from a set list. All letters must touch each other to be valid. In Code Builder, there are no set words, and you can make them up on your own. You can also change letters on tiles if you are really stumped.
In the fusion chamber, you create words from pieces, picking a word and a prefix or suffix and then matching it to a description.
In Power Pack, you must arrange a series of words into alphabetical order on the right of the screen. You can only move one word at a time, and words must always be stacked in alphabetical order.
In Micropix, you must repair a damaged microfilm by replacing nouns, adjectives, adverbs, verbs and punctuation. When you have replaced all the parts correctly, the password is decoded.
Finally, in the Spellanyzer, you need to repair missing, damaged or scrambled words. The voice says the word and you must spell it correctly to fix it. after you type, hit the 'check' button or the enter key. After a set number of correctly spelled words, the password is decoded.
After you have freed all twelve agents, you need to do one last thing, which is to decode the self-destruct sequence for the Babble-On machine.
Also included is a Training Simulator, which allows you to practice on the types of problems you will encounter, and a Progress Tracker, which shows parents how well the child is doing against the various types of problems. You can also set the custom spelling lists.
