Can A Mac Mini Run Games

Conventional hard drives can be a bit sluggish at times - just as they take time to load macOS when you turn your Mac on, they also take time to load all the complex 3D graphics data needed for games.

  • You should have a 1.8GHz processor or better... You might be able to run it on low.
What graphic card do you have?
  • Will this system be able to run Sims 4 when it becomes available for Mac? The Mac Mini in question is the 2014 version, with a 1.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, 500GB hard drive, and 4GB of memory.

hey @ReddGurlRox i would ask our mac experts http://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/777472/playing-ts4-on-a-mac-boot-camp-vm-help#latest
  • Hello,
If this had been a Windows system, perhaps we could have had a better idea of how or whether the game will run or not. However, there isn't much information about the Mac version yet, so we don't quite know what the requirements for the Mac version are yet.
Maybe check back in a few weeks or months when we may have more updated info.

    Ask me about custom-built PCs!
Need to upgrade? - $400 for high settings in Sims 4 --> http://pcpartpicker.com/p/LtphdC
  • Graphic card is Intel HD Graphics 5000. I'm not planning on playing with mods, expansion packs (when they eventually are released), big families/lots or anything that would be strenuous for the system.
  • If it helps, the processor has a turbo boost up to 2.7GHz.
  • not very decent but will work sims 4 is rather power hungry
  • I have a 2.7 Ghz intel corei5 with a AMD radeon HD 6770M 512 MB How will it run?

  • Is there anything I can do to help it work?

Buy a different computer? None of Apple's products are really qualified for gaming unless you're buying the top-tiered configurations. While the HD 5000 is probably sufficient to run the game, keep in mind that no integrated graphic chip is actually designed for gaming - whether it's capable of running a game or not. (Like how you could drink bleach, but your system isn't designed to digest that.)
Also consider the Mac-Mini has such a small form factor, heat may be an issue as it could be with a laptop. Note that you're not supposed to get into any of Apple's hardware, so you're going to pay dearly just for the labor charge of taking it apart if you ever want/require an upgrade or repair.
    Playing on an HP Z800: 2x 6-core Intel Xeon X5660s, 48GB RAM, 4GB nVidia GTX 970
    Alienware R4 17: i7 6700HQ, 16GB RAM, 8GB NVidia GTX 1070
  • The sims 4 should be able to run on Mac versions 10.6 2007 or later when time comes. It should work with mac mini, not really sure...

  • Unfortunately, being 14 I haven't really the means for a new computer.
  • I have a mac mini and i use it for photoshop, photography, sound engineering and the occasional gaming. I have intel i7 with turbo 3.4GHz Dual core (I think), 1Terr Fusion Drive and 16 Ram with Intel HD 4000 graphics. Note that with this configuration I can run on the highness graphic settings on sims 3 without it really lagging so your preferences should be fit for use on Sims 3. I think my Mac is also older if not the same age as yours, if you can run Sims 3 without it crashing you should be fine. This is information from someone who is not a tech professional yet has enough experience to tell you that there shouldn't be any huge problems if you choose to get sims4 once it comes out for mac.
    Regards,
    Alex
